Kids being kids

On Thursday, I had a long day at work. It was hot out and I was tired and all I really wanted to do was go home and sleep. When I walked out the school gates, though, I enountered a scene that made all my worries go away. All I could do then was smile, nod my head and think, "Yeah. It's all right."

The scene? Half a dozen middle school/junior high kids cruising down the path with a boombox blaring from the basket of one of their bikes -- silent as they rode, heading who knows where, resolute yet carefree, minding nobody but themselves.

i felt the same way the other day - i did this ny cares thing where i went swimming with a bunch of kids, then took them out for pizza afterwards. it made me sooooo happy! i played beach volleyball with this 12 year old forever, practiced swimming with these two little 5 year olds, and talked about cool movies over slices of cheese pizza.
