Going Incognito

Who knew that one semi-small change in your appearance could do so much? More specifically, who knew hair was such a big part of your identity?

On Wednesday, I wore a dark red wig to class for a presentation (long story). At the beginning of class, the 6 of us presenters had been asked to huddle in the front and decide the order of presentations. My friend Heidi was writing herself up on the board as #5 and I was the only one left, so I asked her to just write me up as well. The look on her face was priceless. She hesitated, and then turned to me slowly, "Uh... how do you spell it again?" "C-H-R..." She still had the confused look on her face and it dawned on me that she had no clue who I was.

Nor did half the class -- whom I've seen at least once a week every week for the entire semester. I had assumed that everyone would recognize me. They had assumed that I was just a guest in the classroom. Hm...

My mind has been opened to oh, the possibilities... Next time I want to go incognito or be anonymous, ohh yeeeah...

Doesn't it say something about how people can be very superficial. How many people actually spend the time to really get to know you or stop to get a good look at you?
