Campus life...

Yesterday I went for a training up at the law school for my new 'casual employment' (proctoring exams during finals period) and quite frankly, I was jealous. Their building is new and beautiful and technologically advanced -- fancier even than Wharton's new Huntsman Hall.

Beyond the aesthetics, however, I was amazed that they:
a) have money and time to hire and train all these people just to proctor (though I know I shouldn't complain)
b) feel the need to have numerous proctors per exam
c) have LAPTOP exams to make it easier to do essay questions, complete with special software that blocks out other applications while it's running.

Now maybe this is common at law school, who knows, and sure, I accept that they probably have to write really long essays, etc. but um... so do students in lots of other disciplines! I'm sure we all know the feeling of writing our hands off in an exam -- no fun!

At any rate, I felt like this was a glimpse of the life they expect these students to live upon graduation when they get hired at the downtown firms and eventually make their way to the corner office. Surely you would not want to give students who have no hope for such a future luxurious learning spaces that they'd get used to, heaven forbid.

I kid, I kid... sort of.

The second thing I thought about while at school yesterday was how much I miss food trucks. I was down by the main campus so there were quite a few more (though still not as many or as varied as at Penn) and I just couldn't pry myself away. Mmm... There's more than a bit of nostalgia attached to standing outside in the cold as you wait for your hoagie/gyro/crepe/burrito/Chinese/Korean. Mmm...
